Much of today’s health issues focus on the Prevention of disease rather than the Treatment after the development of the disease. KWMC provides education programmes for Healthy Eating, Exercise programmes, Lifestyle changes, Weight management and Smoking cessation programmes. Our bulletin board displays current activity programmes that are also available in the local area.

Full health checks are available for a wide variety of medical conditions. Our Doctors are well versed in the detection of medical problems and the care of chronic diseases. They regularly attend Professional Development courses in a wide variety of disciplines. As a Teaching Practice with the CSQTC, KWMC provides a diverse array of education material for both patients and staff.

Extensive medical examinations are often required prior to commencing certain employment. At Kedron-Wavell MediCentre, we can perform these medicals, including Spirometry and hearing tests, and report directly to the company. Commercial driving licensing medicals can also be performed.

Men are catered for with comprehensive health checks. These are encouraged at all ages, but particularly for those men over 40 years of age.

Pap smears, Breast examinations, Family planning, Contraceptive advice and Pre-Pregnancy Counselling are catered for. Dr Clare and Dr Marea have worked for many years in the field of Women’s Health, and have a wealth of experience.

The Doctors at KWMC participate in shared antenatal care with the Royal Women’s and the Mater Hospitals. This involves the coordination of the initial care of the patient, and the arrangement of all appropriate tests. Private referrals can be arranged for with the Obstetrician of your choice.

KWMC can offer excellent paediatric care to our little folk, from newborn baby checks to feeding difficulties, growth monitoring and their immunization.

Teenagers have special health needs, and they are most welcome at KWMC to discuss their pertinent issues.

Whether you or your children need immunisations for travel, or to complete childhood immunisation schedule, or for any other reason, Kedron-Wavell MediCentre can help. We have many immunisations available on site and our Registered Nurses are trained to administer them. Childhood vaccinations that are part of the government schedule are provided free of charge and the consultation is bulk billed. A recall system is in place to remind parents when their child’s next immunization is due. Annual Flu vaccinations, and the 5 yearly Pneumonia vaccinations, are recommended for those patients over 65 years of age.

Located in the practice is a large treatment room with state of the art equipment and two Registered Nurses to assist with minor surgical procedures. Our doctors are highly skilled and experienced in performing procedures such as the removal of skin cancers, moles, cysts and warts. Cryotherapy may be used for the treatment of early skin cancer changes.

Injuries that occur in the workplace are dealt with promptly and efficiently at KWMC. The 3 bed treatment room is well stocked to deal with acute injuries, with a nurse in attendance at all times. The worker is encouraged to resume their place in the workforce as soon as they able, possibly on a graded return to work programme initially, depending on the injury.

Prior to any overseas travel, a visit to your Doctor is essential. It is important to gain accurate information with regard to immunizations needed for the countries being visited, together with preventative advice. They can also help you manage any of your own health concerns while away. Kedron-Wavell MediCentre has a special interest in Travel Medicine and has obtained approval from the World Health Organisation for administering the Yellow Fever vaccination.

These patients are a respected group of patients that have served our country well in time of need. Their diverse medical needs are well met by the staff here at KWMC.

The experienced GPs at KWMC are well versed in the care of these special patients, who may require attention at any time of the day. KWMC is prepared to offer 24 hour care for these patients in times of need.

Home Health Assessments are provided for patients over 75 years old and are very much encouraged as a comprehensive review of your health. Our Registered Nurse visits you in your home to assess your current health, nutrition, vision, safety and home environment. This is then followed up by your Doctor as part of their continuing commitment to your health.

Should you have a chronic disease that needs ongoing management, (e.g. Diabetes, high blood pressure), and have more than 1 medical person involved in your care, your Doctor may offer to prepare a GP Management Plan with you. This helps to coordinate your health care between the different people that are involved with each individual. Medicare now offers 5 services per year for those patients who require allied health services, to assist them in the management of their chronic disease.

Counselling services are provided at KWMC, and these appointments needed to be booked in advance, allowing adequate time. The Doctors at KWMC have done their Level 1 & 2 training for the Better Outcomes in Mental Health initiative.

Dr Winfried Sedhoff is an accredited SCUBA diving Medical Examiner and is available to perform recreational SCUBA diving medical examinations to Australian state and national standards.
