Practice History

Our family medical practice has a long history, spanning more than 60 years.

Dr Clem McMahon (Dr Marea's father) began his general practice in Redcliffe in 1946, after finishing his service with the RAAF in Townsville.

Five years later, in 1951, Dr McMahon, together with his wife and first two children, moved to the home they had built at Wavell Heights. As was common in those day, Dr McMahon ran his surgery from the front of his family home. Over the years, many people sat and waited on the front steps of that house.

In 1973 it became necessary for the practice to move to a new, larger location and, when a property across the street from the family home in Rode Road became available, 'Wavell MediCentre' was born.

In 1987, Dr Marea joined her father at Wavell MediCentre.

After 31 years on its site at 274 Rode Road, Wavell MediCentre needed to expand again. So, on August 10, 2004, it was with great sadness and some excitement that the practice closed its doors for the last time at the old address.

On August 16, 2004, Kedron-Wavell MediCentre opened its doors at 257 Gympie Road, Kedron in the comfortable surroundings of its state-of-the-art new premises.

Impressively, Dr Clem McMahon continued to practice until 1998, when he 83 and a half years old.

Dr Clem passed away on December 29, 2003, and continues to be sadly missed by those of us who knew him. We believe he would be proud to see how far his practice has come.
